This study aims to analyze the specific ways of structuring the self-image in adolescents with mental deficiency, identifying factors that determine its distortion and highlighting the effects of the inadequate self-perceptions of interpersonal relationships level. Knowing the particularities of mental deficient personality and especially of its self-image is an essential factor for effective adaptation and integration in school and society. Method: Participants are 12 subjects, aged 14-18 years, from "Constantin Paunescu” Special School: 6 subjects with mild mental disability: IQ = 50-70 (BCA, CGL, TMS, DRC, GBI, BMI) and 6 subjects with severe mental disability: IQ = 25-35 (ME, MS, EVA , ASI, TV, ZCD). We chose case study as the main research tool in this paper based on the fact that each individual lives in a personal drama which requires that the thereof treatment, to be alone. Instruments: Tree Test, Person Test and "Who am I?" Test gave us information on the structure and consistency of self-image in mental deficiency. We consider opportune the choice of instruments that are based on graphical expression, as in the case of severe mental deficiency spoken language is hardly used and is hardly mastered by the subjects, while drawing as Roseline Davido says, is language itself. Moreover, students with severe mental deficiency need a more detailed briefing to understand the task and continued support from the examiner. They express uncertainty and dependence, always seeking approval and control.
Keywords: personality, mental deficiency, self-image, interpersonal relationships.
